Since 1882 (and even before), scientists who called themselves psychical researchers – and later parapsychologists – have been investigating, researching and studying psychic experiences and phenomena out in the real world and in the laboratory.

Parapsychologists and their predecessors in psychical research developed the models we have today of everything from ESP to psychokinesis (mind over matter) to apparitions, hauntings and poltergeists. They came up with the methods of field investigation and laboratory experimentation around these phenomena, also bringing in the methods, concepts and theories of other fields of science such as physics and psychology.

So, what do we know about these experiences and phenomena today after more than a century? How have concepts and models changed, or have they? How do today’s parapsychologists bring other science into their investigations and research and what is possible to understand or prove?

Parapsychologists Barry Taff and Loyd Auerbach have over 65 years of experience in Parapsychology between them. They have both been involved in high profile ghost cases as well as laboratory research, and both are quite grounded in multiple disciplines of Science.

In this seminar – their first ever together – they will present the state of scientific knowledge about psychic phenomena, including ghosts and hauntings, poltergeists, telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition and psychokinesis. Underscored with re-tellings of some of their most interesting investigations and encounters with the paranormal, Taff and Auerbach will entertain as much as educate, leaving attendees with an understanding of where we are in “proof” of the paranormal, what we know for sure, what we think we know, and what we don’t know yet (and why not).

As this is their first event together, and they do have different backgrounds and experiences, attendees may find that there is some debate between them on the finer points – something that happens in real scientific inquiry.
