PAUL ANKA
History will be made on Saturday October 27, 2012 when the doors to the spectacular new state-of-the-art Arcadia Unified School District's Performing Arts Center officially open with "An Evening With Anka.". So it is only fitting that they open with a bang courtesy of one of the most iconic singer/songwriters of all time....the incomparable Paul Anka!
With a legendary career that spans more than four decades, Paul Anka is undoubtedly one of the world's most prolific and beloved singer/songwriters of any generation. Named
Billboard Magazine's 21st most successful artist to date, Anka is in good company alongside such music greats as Elvis Presley and the Beatles.
A testament to the importance and permanence inherent in the arts, Anka has amassed a long list of number one songs and hits, many which he will perform at the benefit concert, including the ever-popular "My Way," "Diana,""(You're) Having My Baby" and "You Are My Destiny" among countless others.
Anka's two most recent albums - Rock Swings and Classic Songs, My Way - ingeniously featured songs originally created by some of the biggest rock performers of the day - as well as other established artists across several genres. The twist: Paul Anka of course did the songs "his way."
THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
Upon your first step into the Performing Arts Center, you are immediately transported to a world of possibilities and opportunities where valuable lessons are learned, talent is fostered and the majesty of the arts is shared, cultivated and alive. It is a phenomenal new venue that students, the community, and the arts, can call home.
Built on a foundation of promise and purpose, the premiere 40,000 square foot, 1200 seat, high-concept state-of-the-art facility, serves as an inclusive hub for all of the performing arts.
The modern glass and brick architectural center boasts a performance stage that accommodates 200 musicians, variable acoustics and orchestral shells and professional lighting and sound systems as well as an additional Black Box theater with a separate control room and flexible seating that can host 125 guests.
Additional distinctions include a sound attenuated orchestra room that contains instrument storage, practice rooms and a music library, a professional dance studio with sprung wood floors, comfortable dressing rooms, scene prop and costume storage space and back of the house stage crafts areas. The superstructure is further adorned with a dramatic internal courtyard, lobby and outdoor pavilion areas.
AND YOU!
"An Evening With Anka," begins at 8:00pm and will end with a thoroughly entertained and nostalgic audience, who by attending, have contributed to students, the arts and the community at large for decades to come.
