The 2012 Martin Institute Summer Conference will be in Memphis, TN on June 13 and 14. The conference will be hosted at the Martin Institute for Teaching Excellence on the campus of Presbyterian Day School as well as the University of Memphis.

Our keynote speaker for the 2012 Summer Conference is John Hunter, a teacher with Albemarle County Schools in Charlottesville, Virginia. Much attention has been brought to John Hunter’s teaching because of his 2011 TEDTalk, which was named as the most influential TEDTalk of 2011.
Over the course of the last 25 years, John has developed The World Peace Game, a multi-dimensional strategic board game that requires his fourth graders to solve world dilemmas that are environmental, geopolitical, financial, military, and every other layer he can think of combined.
Katie Wood Ray - Writing Expert
One of our featured keynote speakers is writing expert, Katie Wood Ray. Katie is a former Associate Professor at Western Carolina University and full time writer and researcher of teaching writing.
Again this year, our conference theme will be Teaching for Tomorrow, focusing on 21st Century skills such as higher-order thinking, problem solving and technology integration.
Topics will include: higher-order thinking skills, assessment, evaluation, life skills, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, learning environments, leadership, and more.
The conference brings other distinguished educators from around the country to share their ideas and practices.
