Free Range Neighborhoods: Designing Everyday Natural Places to Motivate Children's Outdoor Play

How can design professionals and developers create streets, residential spaces, childcare centers, schoolgrounds, trails, parks and playgrounds, and all the elements of neighborhood form to facilitate children's independent mobility and connection with nature?

Some outstanding speakers are expected including Robin Moore and Nilda Cosco of the
Natural Learning Initiative, Tim Beatley of the University of Virginia, Tim Gill of the UK (author of No Fear: Growing Up in a Risk Adverse Society); and Richard Dolesh of National Recreation and Parks Association.  Following the speakers will be a design charette for the featured local neighborhood, Belvedere. The Symposium will be held at the Charlottesville Community Design Center on the downtown mall.

Breakfast and Lunch are included in the ticket price.

We hope you can join us!
